Moray Tornadoes 3 Paisley Pirates 8
29/3/2003 at Moray Leisure Centre
Scottish National League

Pirates travelled north with only 12 players with skipper Myles Watson, John Churchill and both Nelson’s amongst several regulars missing.

Despite this they opened the scoring in the 4th minute through James Clark. The lead didn’t last long, with Fraser Munro levelling things in the 10th minute. There was no more scoring in the first period but Pirates discipline demon reared its head late on when Clark found himself cooling his heels in the box after a 2 for slashing plus a 10 minute misconduct.

They played off the powerplay but were facing a shock defeat when first Phil Knights in the 22nd minute and then Andrew Howes in the 27th, put the Elgin side 3-1 up.

Fortunately moments later they were given an immediate lifeline when they were given a powerplay and it took only 12 seconds on the man advantage before Roger monsoon pulled a goal back. This was all the wake up call Pirates needed and within a minute Gary Morris had fired them level. Moray continued to self destruct, Pirates netting the game winner, again on the powerplay through Colin McMillan with 46 seconds left in the second period.

The two sides traded early powerplay opportunities in the final period without success but with both sides a man down in the 50th minute Pirates extended their lead, Monson firing home his second of the night. Tornadoes continued to take penalties and Pirates made them pay again in the 51st minute, Clark netting his second of the game on the powerplay. Pirates completed the scoring by netting twice in the 56th minute with Morris becoming the third Pirate to net a brace and Stuart Swiatek rounding things off. The action, however, didn’t stop there; pirates finishing the match shorthanded after a clash between Knights and Brian Taylor in the 59th minute which saw both take 2+2 roughing penalties. Unfortunately Mark Steele also got involved and he got first use of the showers after he was ejected on a 5+Game misconduct, also for roughing.
