Here is a Match Report for Paisley Pirates v Camperdown Stars . Thanks to Robert Oliphant
Paisley Pirates 2 Camperdown Stars 5
25/10/2003 at Lagoon Leisure Centre
Scottish National League
Stars complete the double over Pirates.
Pirates enjoyed the early ascendancy and deservedly hit the front in the 3rd
minute, albeit in fortunate fashion, when Murray Johnston fooled netminder
Charlie Ward with a mishit shot in the slot. Pirates then found themselves
on the powerplay but couldn't convert. Back at even strength and Pirates did
come close to doubling the lead in the 9th minute but Chris Conaboy found
only the outside of the post from close range. Pirates then got into penalty
trouble spending most of the remainder of the period shorthanded but despite
this they came closest to scoring when Richard Thorp found himself alone in
front on 15 minutes but Ward saved.

If Pirates had the better of the first session, the second couldn't have
started with more contrast, Stars hitting their hosts for 3 goals in 4 minutes. First Andy Samuel sent a blue line drive past a screened Gordon Langford on 23 minutes. Thirty seconds later and a defensive mix up presented a gift to John Dolan. Pirates had chances to level up but when Stuart Swiatek and Myles Watson both found only the pipework, they probably sensed there and then, this wasn't their night. Stars even survived another powerplay before Dolan broke clear to make it 3-1 in the 27th minute. It
could have been worse but for some Langford heroics in the 30th minute when he kept out a Samuel effort and Dolan's rebound chance. Pirates were then back on the powerplay but despite throwing everything at the Stars goal, couldn't find a lifeline goal. Back at even strength and Stars weren't finished for the period, Richard Latto firing them further in front in the 38th minute. Pirates finished the period shorthanded but despite this pulled a goal back 11 seconds from the break and with it a candidate for the most bizarre goal of the season. Watson sending no more than a clearance from
deep in his own zone, but somehow it managed to sneak through Ward.

Pirates survived the carry over powerplay and at 5on5 mounted some pressure but in truth never looked like scoring. Both sides traded further penalties but if Pirates had any hopes of a comeback they were firmly ended by a shorthanded Dolan charge in the 50th minute which completed another hat trick for the Dundonian against Paisley. Pirates found themselves shorthanded twice more before the finish but Stars didn't seem too bothered about adding to the score, the job was already done.
Another bright opening for Pirates but, ultimately, an all too familiar
result against a Stars side and Dolan in particular who in three games
against Paisley has now netted ELEVEN goals.

Pirates travel to Dundee again next Sunday, this time to face the Dundee
Tigers, face off time likely to be 6.30PM
