Here is a match report for Paisley Pirates vs Dundee Tigers
Paisley Pirates 14 Dundee Tigers 1
13/12/2003 at Lagoon Leisure Centre
Scottish National League
Pirates tame Tigers.
For the second week running Pirates received an early wake up call, a 3rd minute powerplay chance for Tigers which Ian Carstairs didn't waste, taking a mere 14 seconds to put tigers in front. Pirates were to dominate for the majority of the evening but took six minutes to ease the tension before Myles Watson tipped home a Gary Morris set up. Pirates survived another powerplay before two goals less than a minute apart in the 16th minute sent them in front for good. Richie Thorp showed good composure in front and then Paul McPhail in only his second outing got his first goal.
Pirates continued to press at the start of the second session but it took a full ten minutes before they added to the score, Colin Nelson splitting open the Tigers defence with a single pass to Alan Campbell in acres of space and he didn't waste the chance. Having got one Pirates went on a burst around the 35th minute, netting 3 more times in fewer than 90 seconds, Watson returned Morris' earlier setup, and Campbell got his second before good work from John Churchill setup debutant Graham Park for number seven.
If Pirates had been slow out of the blocks in the first two periods, they took barely one minute to add to the score in the third, Murray Johnston drawing netminder James Robb before finding the empty net. Johnston turned provider in the 46th minute for Chris Conaboy to net at the second attempt.
Thorp brought up double figures in the 49th minute before the celebration of the night from Mick Drummond as the defenseman netted a rare goal in the 50th minute. Seconds later Watson got his second. If it wasn't bad enough for Dundee, they faded a 5 minute powerplay in the 51st minute after referee Alan Craig ejected Kevin Turnbull for a slashing offence. Mercifully Pirates only scored once on the advantage through Stuart McCaig. Tigers had barely, however, returned to full strength before Thorp completed the scoring and his own first career hat trick.
With the league title almost beyond them, Pirates are now marking time before continuing their Scottish and Spring Cup campaigns, in the meantime they are using the intervening matches against the so called lesser sides to blood some of their under 19 side.
This coming Saturday they face a trip down the A77 to Kilmarnock, where on
their last visit the match didn't take place.
