Did you know that snappy chappy Derek Black has his own website where you can browse at your leisure through Derek's excellent selection of photographs. Why not log into www.centre-ice.co.uk and see for yourself the wide range of excellent work that Derek produces. Derek has been a keen amateur photographer for almost 40 years. It all started when a neighbour of his introduced him to developing film and printing his own black and white pictures. Then it was on to developing colour slides and printing Cibachrome prints from these slides. And now he has reached the digital age.
Over the years his interests in photography have been wide and varied. At first, he was keen on landscapes and would travel throughout Scotland but always returning to his favourite area for these landscapes, around Fort William. He also enjoys trying his hand at action sports photography and has been following the Scottish Rally Championship for some years now. This has led to his pictures being used by some of the top Rally teams in Scotland, mainly for websites and other publicity items.
Having been a lifetime supporter of ice hockey, he decided that he would take his camera to the Dundee Ice Arena to see if he could get some action shots of his favourite team the Dundee Texol Stars. It wasn't long before he was approached by one of the directors of the Stars and asked if he would be willing to supply pictures for the match programmes. So since January 2004 he has been the Stars photographer...that's' right 'photographer to the Stars'! Since then, many of his pictures have been used by various ice hockey teams throughout Scotland and Northern England.
He was recently pictured on the Solway Sharks website with the by-line "Stars photographer Derek Black, simply the best ice hockey photographer in Scotland" They aren't wrong!
Please take a few minutes to look around Derek's site...you'll love it!
