Hello again john thank you for the reply to my first letter, i was wondering if you would be interested if i reproduced a couple of newspaper cuttings from 1957-58 re. games incl. team lists by the reporter DON CUMMING of (i think it was PAISLEY DAILY EXPRESS) I wonder if their archives could supply you with enough info. to add to this site ??? just a thought! The cuttings i have are getting brown with age,and i feel it may be a good idea to repro.now before its too late. i would enjoy doing this so no probs. there. As i said ,john, i have I. H. info. going back to1909 in SCOTLAND and the UK plus international data. i would be happy to 'shovel' bit's and pieces to you if you could use it!!! You can let me know. May i enclose another couple of names for your records, 1957-58 BOB CHERRY CARL HATT BILL MCDONALD DON BEATTIE NEBBY THRASHER (SCOT. & CONT. ALL STARS) regards JOHN-JO.
Hello, I used to stay in Glasgow in the seventies and was wondering if anyone can remember playing hockey on the ice in Queens park. Some of us guys used to get away early on a Saturday morning from our hockey practice at Crossmyloof and head to the park. I can remember there were guys from all districts of Glasgow that came to play there. The highlight would be when you heard the crack coming from under the ice and everyone skated in every direction to get off, but luckily nothing serious ever happened. Wouldn't recommend youngsters to do it nowadays though. James McRae
hello john i thought i would send you another bit of info.for the PIRATES of the PAST team of 1957-58.as it only shows two names. The following list is from a newspaper cutting of p.p. vs. an all star team. i hope it will be of use, so here goes DON BEATTIE, BILL CRAWFORD, BOB DENAULT, CARL HATT, JOE BROWN, BILL BRENNAN, GERRY CORRIVAEU, JIM FULLARTON, N/M TOM LEMON, BILL MACDONALD, BILL SIMPELL, MERV PHYLLIS. As i said in my last letter, john, i have names and photos from programmes of a lot of players from other U.K. teams of that era if its of any interest!!! also, thank you for including my first letter onto the site. i look forward to adding a few more snippets for you in the following weeks. Here's two just came to mind, did you know that BILL SIMPELL had only one eye? but we never knew what caused his accident. also, he was,i think, the first player to wear a helmet, not a fancy 'bone dome' like they have today, but similar to boxers sparring helmet, maybe it was one!!! anyway, john, i will close for tonight, will chat again soon, i hope john-jo.
Hi John, any chance of swapping links with our site. I know that it isn't hockey related but we are trying to draw as many peoples attention to the fact that there are a lot of miscarriage of justice victims inside prison and out here and nothing seems to be done about them. We are trying to build a MOJO retreat to help innocent people when they are released from prison. More info can be found at www.mojoscotland.com . John McManus
