Hockey Stars for Hope NHL Alumni Quotes
UK NHL Alumni Charity Tour 2006
"The biggest reason I'm going over to play back in the UK is to raise awareness and funds to help such a worthy charity," said Troy Crowder. "Secondly, I had many fond memories of my time both on and off the ice over in the UK. The fans over there were very warm and, off the ice, they were very welcoming and hospitable. I'm really looking forward to it as now I get to bring some of my former NHL buddies over to the UK to experience UK hockey and the fans and atmosphere over there."
“I think it’s a great charity that we’re all helping and I also think it’ll be fun to measure ourselves up against the players overseas,” says Gino Odjick.
“Hockey in Canada is our life and blood and now we have a great opportunity to help introduce the great Canadian game to underprivileged kids in another market,” said Jordy Douglas. “I’m President of the Winnipeg Jets Alumni and we are always trying to help kids in any way. There’s nothing we wouldn’t do to help kids anywhere. We’re ambassadors for a game we love to play and we got to do tonnes of things that most people don't get to do and now we’re coming back to our roots. We all go back to our different communities around North America after our careers are over so why not help wherever and whenever we can."
“It’s exciting and I’m really looking forward to traveling to the UK as I’ve never been there before,” said Richard Mulhern. “I’m also looking forward to playing against British and Scottish opponents … I hope they take it easy on us!”
"To combine my passion of playing hockey with my pursuit and interest in golf while also raising money to promote a great cause is great and I'm really looking forward to the trip," said Stew Gavin. "Also, my family history originates from Scotland so being able to return and play my two favorite sports in my motherland is something I'm very excited about doing."
"One of the biggest reasons that I'm really looking forward to this tour is that friends of mine who have played over in the UK have told me that the fan support is really amazing and quite exciting and I'd like to see it firsthand," said Tony McKegney. "We've all seen how soccer crowds are over there and I understand that the hockey fans are just as passionate. Another reason that I'm excited about heading over is because my father is originally from Ireland and my mother is originally from Wales so I'm really looking forward to going back to my roots." |
